College basketball returns to Honda Center on Saturday, December 8 for the 14th annual John R. Wooden Classic presented by Toyo Tires.  For more than a decade, top basketball programs have been featured in this doubleheader named after legendary basketball coach John Wooden. This year UCLA head coach Ben Howland will bring his team to Honda Center for its fifth consecutive appearance in the Wooden Classic. The defending back-to-back regular season Pac-10 champions are coming off their second straight Final Four appearance. Picked by many as a preseason favorite for a national title, the Bruins feature a roster of dynamic players including junior guard Darren Collison and highly-touted freshman Kevin Love.

They will face Davidson, a team who has appeared in two consecutive NCAA Tournaments and is coming off their third straight 20-win season. Davidson enters the season ranked #23 in the nation and is paced by sophomore Stephen Curry, who finished ninth in the country in scoring a season ago and broke the NCAA single-season freshman mark for three-point field goals.

Led by head coach Steve Fisher, San Diego State finished last season with a record of 22-11 and returns seven letterwinners from a season ago. Among those returning is junior forward Lorrenzo Wade who finished among the Mountain West Conference’s Top 10 in steals, blocked shots and defensive rebounds. The Aztecs will battle the Saint Mary’s Gaels, who return six of their top seven scorers, including First Team All-West Coast Conference forward Diamon Simpson and 2007 Freshman All-American center Omar Samhan.

Tip off for San Diego State vs. St. Mary’s will be at 12 noon (PST), with UCLA vs. Davidson beginning at approximately 2:30 p.m. (PST).
