HONDA CENTER AND THE DIRECTV WOODEN LEGACY TEAM UP WITH THE AMERICAN RED CROSS TO COLLECT FUNDS FOR DISASTER RELIEF EFFORTS

Honda Center and the 2013 DIRECTV Wooden Legacy basketball tournament have joined forces with the American Red Cross of Orange County to raise funds for disaster relief efforts.  On Sunday, December 1 at Honda Center, the 2013 DIRECTV Wooden Legacy’s third day of competition, Red Cross volunteers will be accepting monetary donations from ticketed guests. Funds collected will aid victims of disasters such as Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines and the Midwest tornados.

The Red Cross will be accepting monetary donations from DIRECTV Wooden Legacy ticketed guests by way of credit card, cash or check at the South and East entrances to Honda Center throughout the day’s events, beginning at 10:00 AM and continuing until 6:45 PM. The Red Cross asks that any donations made in form of checks are made payable to the American Red Cross with “Disaster Relief” in the memo line. No material items will be accepted as donations. In addition to this one day fundraising event, donations can be made online at www.redcross.org, via 1-800-REDCROSS or by texting REDCROSS to 90999.

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation's blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families.  The Red Cross serves approximately 3.1 million people throughout Orange County and relies on donations of time, money and blood from volunteers, donors, and partners to support local Red Cross humanitarian work that helps prevent and ease human suffering.

The Wooden Legacy was formed as two vibrant, nationally-recognized collegiate basketball events, the former John R. Wooden Classic and the Anaheim Classic, joined forces. Eight teams are confirmed to compete in the highly anticipated event: Arizona State, Cal State Fullerton, College of Charleston, Creighton, George Washington, Marquette, Miami and San Diego State. The tournament will be held at two sites over the 2013 Thanksgiving weekend, with the opening two rounds being played at Cal State Fullerton November 28 and 29, and four placement contests featuring the championship game Sunday, December 1 at Honda Center.
