Honda Center kicked off its 20th Anniversary celebration today in honor of the first-ever event held at the facility, a sold out Barry Manilow concert the evening of June 19, 1993. The venue launched its first online contest via its social networks which allows fans to choose their favorite sports moments from two decades of highlights. Those who vote in the final round will have the chance to win a 20-person party suite at a Ducks game next season.

“We’re fortunate to have seen an incredible amount of very historic moments happen live right here in Orange County,” said Tim Ryan, President and CEO of the venue. “With the support we get from the Orange County community and the recent upgrades we’ve made to the facility, I truly believe the next 20 years should be just as exciting as the last.”

Throughout the summer the arena will launch additional programs aimed to engage fans who’ve seen the biggest and brightest stars step into the spotlight, whether that be on the ice, in the ring, on stage or on the court. In addition, the venue will utilize it’s more than 500 new flat-panel concourse displays and two outdoor marquees to take a look back at some of the most memorable events of the past.

The contest announced today to select a most memorable moment in sports will take a bracketed matchup approach, allowing fans to vote on their favorites until one event stands alone. The top 20 finalists were compiled by longtime Orange County sports columnist Randy Youngman, who saw most of the list live from press row. Following the fan voting, Youngman’s rankings for each event will be posted to see how voting compared with an expert’s opinion.
The 20th year of Honda Center will see the opening of The Grand Terrace, the largest single upgrade project in the venue’s history. This fall will also mark the Anaheim Ducks 20th anniversary season, with regular season games beginning in October.

Over the 20 years in Anaheim, Honda Center has hosted more than 3000 events and welcomed more than 32 million fans through its doors.
